Happy New Year!

This time last year I was saying goodbye to the worst year of my life.  2017 was indeed our ‘annus horribilis’, the year we lost the irreplaceable Greg.  Yet I remember feeling thankful as the clock struck midnight.  Thankful for the legacy Greg had left.  Through the worst of times, I’d actually seen the best of human spirit.  The friends I’ve gained through this remarkable person and the support they’ve offered has been incredible.  Also I have the blessing of our 2 boys, who very much keep their Dad’s memory alive with their appearance and traits.  How can a person really be gone, when they have left half of their genetic makeup in their children, and their imprint on the hearts of so many?

As the New Year arrived, I made a pledge to ‘live more’.  Life for me wasn’t about giving things up or limiting anything.  And although I really could do with losing a couple of stone and taking up a fitness regime, those things weren’t top of my agenda!  Instead I opted to travel more, make more time for friends, bake more, drink more coffee (& gin!), spend more time in the fresh air, read more, and so the list goes on!  It was all about making the most of life and rattling through my bucket list!  So that’s what I did!

We travelled to my bucket list destinations of Lapland, Dubai and Copenhagen.

There were also trips to Menorca, Barcelona, Eurodisney, Old Trafford, Harry Potter Studios and Center Parcs.

One of my highlights of the year had to be our school reunion!  I was involved in the planning of this, and the chance to reconnect with so many old friends really was something special.  I hope this wasn’t a one off  ‘Maesteg Comprehensive Class of 1988-1993’?

In terms of my blog, I’ve baked more and shared more recipes, I’ve travelled more and shared my adventures and I’ve sampled more coffee and gin!  But my most viewed posts were those where I talked about grief and being positive.  I always try and write from the heart and am so proud to think that I may have helped somebody else in my position.  I also get a real buzz when somebody recreates one of my recipes!  Hopefully, with more time on my hands in 2019, I can continue to grow my blog.

So….. onto 2019!  More of the same please!  More travel, more baking, more blogging, more coffee, more gin, more reading, more fresh air and most importantly….. more friendship.

2018 you weren’t so bad!  Here comes 2019….. let’s make it a good one x
