Spanish Latte

During my visit to Dubai earlier this year, I was introduced to the Spanish Latte at ‘% Arabica’.  I have since been experimenting to come up with the following recipes!

The Spanish Latte is espresso with textured milk and a small dose of sweetened condensed milk.  This is slightly different to ‘Cafe Bombon’ as drunk by the Spaniards, as this is a shot of espresso with condensed milk (no textured milk).

My method for the Spanish Latte is:

  1. Use a pre warmed latte cup.
  2. Add 30ml of sweetened condensed milk to the cup (you may want to heat for a few seconds in the microwave, but this isn’t necessary).
  3. Pull a double espresso shot directly over the condensed milk (you may want to give this a stir, but it isn’t really necessary).
  4. Texture 150ml of full fat milk and pour over the mixture.

Enjoy!

You can create an ‘Iced Spanish Latte’ with the same basic ingredients but slightly different method.

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice.
  2. Pour in a double espresso shot.
  3. Add 30 ml of sweetened condensed milk (the condensed milk mixes with the coffee to create a lovely pattern).
  4. Top with cold milk.

If you like your coffee to have a ‘kick’ you could make a ‘Baraquito’!

  1. Put 2tbsp sweetened condensed milk into a tall glass.
  2. Add 2tbsp of Tia Maria or Kahlua liquer.
  3. Fill the glass to almost the top with hot milk.
  4. Pour in 1 shot of espresso (try not to mix the layers).
  5. Garnish with lemon or orange zest and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

In the above recipes I have used ‘Nestle Carnation Squeezy Condensed Milk’.
