Spanish Latte

During my visit to Dubai earlier this year, I was introduced to the Spanish Latte at ‘% Arabica’. I have since been experimenting to come up with the following recipes!
The Spanish Latte is espresso with textured milk and a small dose of sweetened condensed milk. This is slightly different to ‘Cafe Bombon’ as drunk by the Spaniards, as this is a shot of espresso with condensed milk (no textured milk).
My method for the Spanish Latte is:
- Use a pre warmed latte cup.
- Add 30ml of sweetened condensed milk to the cup (you may want to heat for a few seconds in the microwave, but this isn’t necessary).
- Pull a double espresso shot directly over the condensed milk (you may want to give this a stir, but it isn’t really necessary).
- Texture 150ml of full fat milk and pour over the mixture.
Enjoy!
You can create an ‘Iced Spanish Latte’ with the same basic ingredients but slightly different method.
- Fill a tall glass with ice.
- Pour in a double espresso shot.
- Add 30 ml of sweetened condensed milk (the condensed milk mixes with the coffee to create a lovely pattern).
- Top with cold milk.
If you like your coffee to have a ‘kick’ you could make a ‘Baraquito’!
- Put 2tbsp sweetened condensed milk into a tall glass.
- Add 2tbsp of Tia Maria or Kahlua liquer.
- Fill the glass to almost the top with hot milk.
- Pour in 1 shot of espresso (try not to mix the layers).
- Garnish with lemon or orange zest and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
In the above recipes I have used ‘Nestle Carnation Squeezy Condensed Milk’.
