World Cup Cakes

As World Cup fever is currently sweeping the country, I thought I’d share an idea for football cupcakes.  I first made these cakes a few years ago for a birthday party, and with just a little effort my ‘Very Vanilla Cupcakes’ can be transformed into World Cup showstoppers!

Simply follow the instructions for ‘Very Vanilla Cupcakes’ (25.05.17) but add a little green food gel to the frosting.  I use ‘Wilton Leaf Green Icing Colour’.  Remember you only need a small amount and I would recommend just adding a little at a time with a cocktail stick and mixing thoroughly until you get your desired shade of grass!

To pipe the frosting onto the cakes, I use a ‘JEM 235’ nozzle with a disposable piping bag.

To achieve a ‘grass’ effect, apply the frosting in a blobbing motion, squeezing the bag and pulling it upwards, until all parts of the cake are covered.

Decorate with football style cake toppers such as the ‘PME Football Match Cake Topper Set’ available at Lakeland for £2.99 or edible footballs such as ‘Culpitt Football Sugar Toppers 12 Pack’ available at Hobbycraft for £2.50.
