Swansea Street Food Festival

The Bank Holiday Weekend of May 5th-7th saw Swansea welcome 30 plus food stalls to Museum Park for the Street Food Festival.  Stalls from far and wide showcasing foods from all corners of the Globe were present as Swansea basked in beautiful Bank Holiday sunshine.  For a self confessed foodie like myself, this really was food heaven.  My only regret being that I only had chance to visit on one of the days, so it was impossible for me to sample all that was on offer!

I had my children with me, one of whom is a very fussy eater!  But there was plenty there to satisfy his tastebuds!  First port of call for the kids was ‘Sam & the Frying Machine’ for fish and chips.  Followed by Churros from ‘Viva Los Churros’ and milkshakes from the ‘Orgazmic Milkshake Co’.  With the kids appetites satisfied, it was my turn!

I was determined to try street food that either I’d never tried before or that I don’t regularly eat.  So although the foot long Pizza slices of ‘New York Street Food UK’ and the BBQ classics with a modern twist of ‘Spicers Meat Wagon’ looked very appealing I just didn’t have room for them on this occasion!  The first thing I sampled was a ‘Pesto Aranici’ from ‘Fritti – Italian Street Food’.  This was a crispy risotto ball mixed with pesto and melting mozzarella.  Bellissimo!  Next stop was ‘The Bearded Taco’ for a Californian gin & tonic tempura avocado with honey, lemon slaw & chipotle aioli Taco.  This was aptly named ‘Let’s Avo Cwtch’.  My final stop was at Street Food South West’s ‘Little Marrakesh’ for a Moroccan lamb flatbread.  By this time I was completely stuffed, more’s the shame!  There was so much more I’d have loved to have sampled!

One of the biggest queues was at ‘3 Little Pigs Souvlaki’, a Greek BBQ.  Other offerings were ‘Mac n Cheese’ from the ‘Gourmet Street Kitchen’, Gourmet sausages and homemade toppings from ‘The Dog House’,  Fries and Toppings from ‘The Grub Shed’ and Toasted Cheese Sandwiches from ‘Mr Croquewich’.  On an Indian theme, there was Vegan street food by ‘Pakora Pod’ as well as Indian street food from ‘Tukka Tuk’, the brainchild of ‘Purple Poppadom’ chef Anand George.  You could be transported to the street food of Malaysia at ‘Makasih Street Food’ or Istanbul with the shish kebabs of ‘Murray May’s’.

Providing sweet treats were ‘The Craft Waffle Co’, ‘Ice Green’, Chockshop’ and ‘MKS’ with their selection of waffles, vegan & dairy free ice cream, brownies and Turkish delight.

‘Harbwr Brewery Tenby’ were running a bar and cocktails were available at the ‘Red Bull Bar Lab.  Local ‘Cygnet Gin’, which is distilled just across the road from Museum Park, also made an appearance.  You could get your caffeine fix from ‘The Thirsty Elephant’ who serve Coaltown Coffee and were recently featured on my blog.

So, all in all, there was something there to tantalise everybody’s taste buds.  The glorious weather certainly helped and it was fantastic to see the traders having a bumper weekend.  I would highly recommend a visit to ‘Swansea Street Food Festival’ and will certainly be keeping a date in my diary for the next one!
